Steps to Become a Candidate in an Upcoming Election

  1. Be sure to request our Candidate Guide by contacting the Candidate Qualifying Clerk at 352-569-1540.  Our Guide covers information on how to file to run for an office/seat, the forms and fees that are required for prefiling your intent as well as how to qualify, in addition to other resources that are included in the Guide.

  2. Make sure you review the Florida Handbook for Candidates & Treasurers (link listed under Forms & Publications section below).  This Handbook is a helpful resource that goes into detail on the requirements for filing, campaigning, accepting contributions, advertising, etc.

  3. If you plan on running for office, it is your responsibility to become acquainted with and to follow relevant Florida election laws that might have a bearing on your campaign or qualifications to run for office.  We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the links in the Resource Section below on this page.  

Official Qualifying Office

All candidates are required to qualify during the qualifying period at the Official Qualifying Office located at 7375 Powell Road, Suite 125, Wildwood, Florida.  For additional information please contact the Candidate Qualifying Clerk at 352-569-1540.
