We have provided the information on this page as a helpful resource to individuals who are interested in learning more about running for public office in Sumter County.  These resources should provide you with answers to the many questions you may have.

If you plan on running for office, it is your responsibility to become acquainted with and to follow relevant Florida Election Laws that might have a bearing on your campaign or qualifications to run for office.  We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the information provided in the Resource Section below.

OFFICIAL QUALIFYING OFFICE 

All candidates are required to qualify during the qualifying period at the Official Qualifying Office located at 7375 Powell Road, Suite 125, Wildwood, Florida 34785.  For additional information, please contact the Candidate Qualifying Clerk at 352-569-1540 (Select (1) for Directory, then (2) for Candidates).

For Local County Candidates - Constitutional, Commissioners, School Board, Special Districts, State Senator, State Representative (Pursuant to Florida Statute 99.095)

May 28, 2024 - "Pre"qualifying paperwork submission (STATE/COUNTY)

Qualifying paperwork may be accepted and held 2 weeks prior to qualifying period (Pursuant to Florida Statute 99.061(8)) . For Local County Candidates - Constitutional, Commissioners, School Board, Cities, Special Districts, State Senator, State Representative.

May 31, 2024 - resign to run deadline (STATE/COUNTY)

For Local County Candidates - Constitutional, Commissioners, School Board, Cities, Special Districts, State Senator, State Representative (Pursuant to Florida Statute 99.012) 

begins noon, june 10, 2024 - ends noon, june 14, 2024 - QUALIFYING (STATE/COUNTY)

For Local County Candidates - Constitutional, Commissioners, School Board, Cities, Special Districts (other than Judge), State Senator, State Representative (Pursuant to Florida Statute 99.061)
